Examples of Apple Intelligence at work.
Apple’s moved on to the fourth generation of its operating system updates, testing new builds of iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, tvOS 18.4, watchOS 11.4, and visionOS 2.4 set.
The fourth beta round follows after the fourth for iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, tvOS 18.4, watchOS 11.4, and visionOS 2.4, dating back to March 10. The second landed on March 3, and the first round appeared on February 21.
The fourth iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 developer betas share build number 22E5232a, replacing 22E5222f, while macOS Sequoia 15.4 beta four uses build number 24E5238a, up from 24E5228e. The fourth tvOS 18.4 build is 22L5250a, the fourth watchOS 11.4 build is 22T5244a, and the new visionOS 2.4 build is 22O5231a.
Among the first build additions in iOS 18.4 were changes to Apple Intelligence, covering localization support, Image Playground’s sketch style, and adjustments to priority notifications.
There was also a new Apple Vision Pro which explains how to use the Apple Vision Pro, as well as offering a Discover section for looking at apps and immersive videos for the headset.
Apple News+ added food content, Control Center gained new Ambient Music controls, and smaller changes were made to Apple Maps, Apple Wallet, CarPlay, Mobile Device Management, Podcasts, and Siri.
The first iPadOS build added the on-device email categorization feature, which also arrived on macOS Sequoia 15.4. Apple Vision Pro gained support for Apple Intelligence in the first visionOS 2.4 beta build.
The second round of builds brought with it a set of new emoji characters, added Visual Intelligence to the iPhone 15 Pro, and a Control Center section just for Apple Intelligence features.
The App Store offered additional options for downloads, with a new “pause” button to temporarily stop updates. There were also changes to the Shortcuts app and indications that CarPlay could have an update for EV route planning in the future.
A new menu icon was added in the Wallet app for accessing in-app settings and order management. Orange users in France saw the RCS protocol enabled in the beta.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly recommend that users do not install beta operating systems or other software being tested onto “mission-critical” or primary hardware, due to the ever-present danger of bugs and issues that could result in the loss of data. As always, testers should use secondary or non-essential devices and ensure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.
